Getting married in Ibiza

Ibiza has two reputations and only one of them affects a wedding weekend. The clubs and beach clubs of the south and west are real, expensive and easy to avoid; the north and the interior are quiet, wooded and agricultural, full of whitewashed fincas and agroturismos that run weddings as their main business between May and October. It suits couples who want a small, warm, late-running party in a place their friends will happily turn into a holiday, and who accept that the island charges a premium for everything in season.

Formentera is about half an hour away by ferry and works well as a day out for guests, less well as a venue once you are moving a hundred people to it. What surprises couples is the noise rule: outdoor music at rural properties commonly stops somewhere between eleven and midnight, the limit is set by the municipality and it is enforced, so the last hours of the night happen indoors or not at all. Ask each venue for its cut-off and its event licence before you fall for the terrace.

The three that catch people out

Know before you book

  1. 1

Amplified outdoor music is capped by the local ayuntamiento and the limit differs by municipality and by property. Get the exact time, and whether the party may move indoors afterwards, in writing before you book.

  2. 2

A private villa is not automatically a licensed event venue, and unlicensed parties are actively policed here. Ask whether the property is permitted to host an event of your size and who holds the licence.

  3. 3

The season is short and dense: most venues and suppliers work May to October, and July and August rates for villas, hotels and hire cars run far above the shoulder months.

Getting there

Ibiza airport is about ten minutes from Ibiza Town and around forty from the far north, and takes dense low-cost traffic from across Europe between May and October, thinning sharply out of season. Ferries run from Denia, Valencia and Barcelona for guests travelling with a car, and from Ibiza port to Formentera in roughly half an hour. Most guests will want a hire car or a seat on your shuttle, because taxis are hard to find on a summer night. Tell guests early which side of the island they are staying on and how they get home at two in the morning.

Before you promise anyone anything

Foreign couples very commonly hold a symbolic ceremony on the island and complete the legal marriage at home, and most island suppliers plan on that basis. Where a local civil or religious marriage is possible, the requirements, documents, translations and any residence or waiting period vary by municipality, by nationality and over time. This is not legal advice: verify the current rules with the local town hall and with your own authorities before you fix a date or sign anything that depends on the answer.

Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.

22 wedding venues in Ibiza

Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.

Adults-only five-star near Cala Codolar with several small bookable spaces rather than one large hall, so the format follows the space you pick. Note the rooftop's 120 is the cocktail figure and its restaurant seats 48, which matters if you want everyone seated together.
