Getting married in Andalusia

Andalusia gives you courtyards, tiled patios, orange trees and a late-night culture that suits a wedding perfectly: dinner at nine, dancing until three, and nobody thinking either is unusual. Seville, Granada, Ronda and the countryside between them offer haciendas and cortijos with room to spread out, at prices below Italy or the Riviera for comparable beauty. It suits couples who want warmth, colour and a party that genuinely goes late, and who are willing to shape the day around the sun rather than fight it.

Summer is the hard constraint: July and August inland regularly pass forty degrees, which is not a detail but a design problem. Plan for shade, water stations and a ceremony no earlier than the evening, or move the date to spring or autumn. What surprises couples is how the local rhythm resets the timeline, and how many venues expect their own catering and drinks.

Read the exclusivity clauses closely before comparing quotes.

The three that catch people out

Know before you book

  1. 1

Inland summer heat is extreme. If you marry between June and September, put the ceremony in the evening and provide shade, fans and water for guests.

  2. 2

Many haciendas require their own catering and bar, and some restrict outside suppliers entirely. Ask what you are allowed to bring before you compare prices.

  3. 3

The local schedule runs late: dinner at nine and dancing past two are normal. Tell guests the real timings so nobody eats beforehand and fades early.

Getting there

Malaga, Seville and Jerez take European flights year round, with Malaga the cheapest and best served. Reaching a rural hacienda is usually another forty-five to ninety minutes by car, and high-speed rail links Madrid, Cordoba, Seville and Malaga for guests who prefer trains. Warn guests that inland summer temperatures are a serious factor when they pack and when they book a hire car without air conditioning.

Before you promise anyone anything

Couples from abroad often marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the hacienda. Where a local civil or religious marriage is possible, the requirements, documents, translations and any residence or waiting period vary by nationality, by municipality and over time. This is not legal advice: confirm the current rules with the local town hall and your own authorities before setting the date.

Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.

55 wedding venues in Andalusia

Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.
