Getting married in Occitanie

Occitanie is where the south of France stops being expensive. It runs from Toulouse and the pink-brick Garonne country east through Carcassonne and the Aude to Montpellier and the Mediterranean, and its venue stock is mostly domaines: working or former wine estates that rent by the weekend, often with enough bedrooms to sleep the wedding party. Venue budgets here sit well below Provence and the Riviera for a comparable building and comparable food, which is the main reason couples end up looking at it.

The landscape is drier and more open than the Loire, with fortified towns, cloisters and vineyards instead of manicured parkland. It suits couples who want three days in one place, one long table, and a budget that survives the guest list. What surprises couples is the tramontane, a hard dry wind off the mountains that can arrive in any season and will take a light structure with it, and how far apart the region's entry points are: Toulouse and Montpellier are roughly three hours of driving from each other, so pick one side and tell guests which.

The three that catch people out

Know before you book

  1. 1

The tramontane wind blows hard and with little warning. Choose low, weighted decor outdoors, and agree a wind plan and a decision time with the venue and the florist.

  2. 2

Domaines are usually hired dry and by the weekend, with bedrooms included in the fee. Decide early who sleeps on site, because it sets the shape of the whole weekend.

  3. 3

August is the French holiday month: some suppliers and restaurants close and the coast near Montpellier is crowded. A June or September date is easier to staff and easier on guests.

Getting there

Toulouse and Montpellier are the two main airports, with Carcassonne and Beziers taking seasonal low-cost routes that land close to the Aude venue country. The TGV from Paris reaches Montpellier in around three and a half hours and Toulouse in a little over four, and Montpellier has direct trains to Barcelona, which is useful if part of your list is coming from Spain. Venues are rural, so nearly every guest needs a car or a seat on your shuttle. State on your website which airport you have chosen as the default arrival point, because the wrong one can add three hours of driving.

Before you promise anyone anything

France's residence and publication requirements for a civil marriage are widely described as strict, and they are interpreted commune by commune rather than nationally, so what one mairie tells a couple may not match another. Nothing here is legal advice and none of it should be read as a statement of what the rules are today. Most foreign couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the domaine; if you intend to marry legally in France, the verification is yours to do, in writing, with the mairie of the commune and with your own authorities before you build a plan on it.

Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.

28 wedding venues in Occitanie

Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.

  • chateau

    Château de Pennautier

    Capacity
up to 200 for a cocktail, 120 for a seated meal
    Price
not published — the site offers a wedding rate sheet and brochure on request

A 17th-century wine estate five kilometres from the Cité de Carcassonne, with formal salons, a park and 24 rooms and suites on site, so the wedding party can sleep where it celebrates. The published seated figure (120) is well below the cocktail figure, so confirm early whether your guest list fits a seated dinner indoors.

  • wine resort hotel

    Château l'Hospitalet

    Capacity
up to 120 indoors; beach venue 150 seated or 300 for a cocktail
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A five-star wine resort in the La Clape natural park outside Narbonne with 41 rooms and suites and its own beach club, sleeping up to 82 adults when taken exclusively. The beach spaces are seasonal, so ask which of them is actually available for your date before fixing the format.

  • chateau

    Château de Flaugergues

    Capacity
    not published
    Price
hire not published; the site lists partner catering from EUR 25.00 to EUR 43.00 TTC per person for a classic cocktail

An 18th-century folie inside Montpellier itself, hiring out the botanical park, bamboo grove, château terrace, farm courtyard and three reception rooms, with 200 free parking spaces. Being in the city makes guest travel simple; ask for capacity in writing, as the site publishes furniture counts rather than a guest number.

  • castle

    Château d'Agel

    Capacity
60 people for the reception; sleeps 18 in 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms
    Price
from EUR 5,500 to EUR 8,500 depending on the number of nights and the season, minimum three nights

A medieval castle in the Minervois taken exclusively for small weddings, with the whole house and its bedrooms included in the hire. The reception cap of 60 is firm, and the three-night minimum means the budget covers a long weekend rather than a single day.

  • vineyard estate

    Château Canet

    Capacity
accommodation on site in 9 cottages for up to 40 guests
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A 19th-century family wine estate at Rustiques, minutes from Carcassonne, hired exclusively with an olive-grove ceremony spot, courtyard dinner and an orangerie for the party. The site publishes sleeping capacity but not a reception number, and asks for a minimum of three nights.

  • vineyard estate hotel

    Château Les Carrasses

    Capacity
    not published
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A restored 19th-century wine estate near Capestang with hotel suites, villas and cottages, in-house planning and the option to book the whole château for exclusivity. Neither capacity nor rates are on the site, so treat the first call as a scoping conversation.

  • chateau

    Château Saint-Martin de la Garrigue

    Capacity
80 to 120 guests is described as ideal; larger numbers by prior agreement
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A Renaissance château on a working wine estate at Montagnac, between Béziers and Montpellier, that deliberately limits how many events it takes each year. Because dates are scarce, enquire well ahead and confirm in writing whether your final number is inside the agreed range.

  • domaine

    Domaine de la Grangette

    Capacity
up to 180 guests in the heated and air-conditioned hall
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A Hérault estate with a 200 m2 stone reception hall, an 800 m2 olive-tree courtyard and a pine grove for the ceremony, plus up to 90 beds across rooms, gîtes, a dormitory and a tipi village. Sleeping most of the guest list on site keeps late transport off the plan, which suits a mid-budget weekend.

  • wine estate

    Château Hermitage de Combas

    Capacity
modular hall for up to 500 people; 127 beds across 44 units on site
    Price
not published — quotes are personalised on request

A large estate at Servian between Béziers and Montpellier, with a modular hall and a planted terrace, and enough on-site lodging to keep the whole party in one place. Its scale suits big guest lists; smaller weddings should check what minimum spend or minimum accommodation booking applies.

    Capacity
up to 180 seated guests in the Salle des faïences
    Price
not published — estimates are prepared per project

An 1884 château on a 200-hectare wine estate at Cruzy, restored in 2015, with a tiled hall as the main dining room and the Gîte de l'Horloge (6 bedrooms) on site. On-site sleeping is limited, so budget for shuttles or nearby gîtes for the rest of the guest list.

  • chateau

    Château Chalabre

    Capacity
    not published
    Price
not published — a 2025/2026 brochure is offered for download

A 13th to 18th-century château in the Pays Cathare, about 45 minutes from Carcassonne and an hour from Toulouse, hired either bare with tables and set-up or with catering, drinks, decoration and childcare added à la carte. The bare-hire option makes it one of the more budget-flexible castles in the Aude, but it means you are assembling the suppliers yourself.

  • wine estate

    Château la Villatade

    Capacity
reception room 100 to 120 seats; courtyard up to 150 seated; 5 cottages sleeping 28
    Price
not published — quotes are given on request

A working wine estate at Sallèles-Cabardès, roughly 20 minutes from Carcassonne, with a renovated stone reception room, a courtyard and a pool set among the vines. Sleeping capacity is 28, so plan transport back to Carcassonne for the rest of the guests.

    Capacity
Corum room up to 160 seated; Comedis 50-60 seated; Comedis plus Coventis about 130; 9 bedrooms
    Price
not published — the site publishes only a 10% discount on the estate's own wines for couples

An 1878 family house on an organic wine estate at Malviès, south of Carcassonne, whose old storage cellars were converted into three reception rooms in 2022, with 100 parking spaces. Room sizes differ a lot, so fix your guest number before choosing which space to book.

  • domaine

    Domaine de Russol

    Capacity
up to 350 seated guests and 535 for a cocktail
    Price
not published — proposals are sent on request

A 16th-century fortified farmhouse at Laure-Minervois, fully renovated in 2020, whose Grand Chai is one of the largest licensed reception rooms in the area. Useful for unusually large guest lists; ask what the smallest booking they take is if your wedding is under 100.

  • chateau

    Château de Launac

    Capacity
170 people; weddings run Friday to Sunday
    Price
not published — the site offers a brochure on request

A medieval fortress about 25 minutes from Toulouse-Blagnac airport, with an orangery, several historic rooms and an enclosed park with coach-accessible parking. Lodging is spread across a nuptial suite, a logis for up to 15 and small units in the park, so most guests will stay off site.

  • priory

    Prieuré Saint-Nicolas

    Capacity
chapel takes a little more than 200 people; sleeps up to 25 in 6 suites and rooms
    Price
not published — privatisation is quoted on request

A listed priory at Sainte-Anastasie in the Nîmes-Uzès-Pont du Gard triangle, with a cloister garden, deconsecrated chapel, terraces and a natural pool across 12 hectares. Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A restored 19th-century wine estate near Pézenas run as a hotel, spa and working winery, taking a deliberately small number of weddings each year. Because dates are limited, book early and confirm whether the hotel is exclusive to your party on the day.

  • abbey

    Abbaye de Valmagne

    Capacity
    not published
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A 12th-century Cistercian abbey at Villeveyrac between Montpellier and Béziers, hiring the cour d'honneur, church, cloister, chapter house and refectory. The site states the abbey is reserved for you from 18:00 until 5:00 at the latest, and caterers may only set up in the old kitchen or at the church porch, which constrains a daytime ceremony.

  • chateau hotel

    Château de Salettes

    Capacity
not published — the site gives meeting-room numbers only, no wedding or restaurant seating figure
    Price
wedding packages published: EUR 7,700 (1 night, low season) to EUR 11,900 (2 nights, high season)

A 13th and 15th-century château turned hotel, restaurant and spa in the Gaillac vineyards of the Tarn, sold as full privatisation with priced one- and two-night wedding packages. The site quotes 18 rooms in the hotel description and 46 accommodations in the wedding section, so ask which figure applies to your booking.

    Capacity
    La Bergerie, 240 m2: up to 200 for a cocktail, 140 seated
    Price

A wine estate on the La Clape plateau between Narbonne and the sea, whose renovated Bergerie hall is the reception space, with a terrace 500 metres away used for outdoor ceremonies. There is no accommodation stated on the estate, so plan lodging and transport from Narbonne.

  • wine estate

    Château Rieutort

    Capacity
up to 100 seated in the reception room; larger numbers outdoors under marquees; sleeps 65
    Price
2021 offer published: EUR 5,600-13,000 (Nov-Apr) up to EUR 18,000-25,000 (late August), exclusive use

An 18th-century wine estate at Saint-Pargoire in the Hérault, let only as a full exclusive privatisation, with two pools, a spa, five château suites and seven gîtes across 21 bedrooms. Rates are seasonal and published for 2021, so ask for the current sheet; indoor seating stops at 100 and anything larger needs a marquee.

  • chateau

    Château Bas d'Aumelas

    Capacity
reception hall 170 seated, extendable with the terrace; French garden 130 seated or 300 standing
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A 14th-century château about 30 minutes from Montpellier, in the same family for two centuries and now an organic wine estate, with a French garden in the courtyard and a stone hall for dinner. Surrounded by open garrigue, so factor in guest transport and a wet-weather plan for the garden cocktail.

    Price
not published — quotes are requested through the booking system

    not published
    Price
not published — ask for the brochure

A 19th-century estate at Ginestas in the Minervois, half an hour from the Mediterranean and close to the Canal du Midi, offering rooms in both a hotel wing and the château itself. Neither capacity nor rates appear on the site, so ask for both in writing along with what the quoted package actually includes.

  • mas

    Le Mas des Sagnes

    Capacity
60 guests on the evening of the event; 48 beds across 8 units of 2 bedrooms
    Price
from EUR 2,750 for one night (Sat 11:00 to Sun 17:00) or EUR 3,960 for two nights (Fri 15:30 to Sun 17:00)

A small Gard estate at Collias in the Gorges du Gardon, close to Uzès and the Pont du Gard, sold as full exclusivity with a 100 m2 reception room and beds for 48. One of the genuinely affordable options in the region, but the 60-guest evening cap is the binding constraint.

    Château Pech-Céleyran

    Capacity
not published; rooms range from the 50 m2 Salle de la Menuiserie to the 250 m2 Salle du Chai
    Price

A family wine estate at Salles-d'Aude a few minutes from Narbonne, with several linked rooms, a courtyard and a covered préau, plus guest rooms and gîtes on site. The published starting rate makes it one of the cheaper Aude estates; ask for the guest capacity of the specific rooms in your quote, as none is published.

    Capacity
sleeps up to 42 at the Comptoir, plus 8 at Les Mazets de Fernand and 16 at Le Mas des Terres Rouges

A restored 17th-century mas on 57 privatised hectares in the Cévennes near Alès, with olive-tree and lavender ceremony spots, covered pergolas and a climate-controlled barn for the party. Reception capacity is not published, only bed counts, so confirm the guest limit before building the list.

  • domaine

    Domaine Ostara

    Capacity
main 300 m2 hall up to 220 seated; 330 people across both rooms
    Price
not published — the site links a rates page but publishes no figures

A 650 m2 two-room venue with a central bar set in an olive grove at Castries, under 15 minutes from central Montpellier, which makes it an easy choice when most guests are staying in the city. The site gives 200 seated in one place and 220 in another, so ask which figure is contractual.
