Getting married in Loire Valley
The Loire is where a chateau wedding stops being a fantasy budget line and becomes an achievable one. Between Tours and Angers there are hundreds of privately owned chateaux and manors that rent for a weekend with bedrooms included, often for less than a mid-range city hotel would charge for the same headcount. It suits couples who want the whole party under one roof: welcome drinks on Friday, the wedding on Saturday, a slow brunch on Sunday before everyone drives home.
The trade-off is that many of these houses are family properties rather than slick venues, so expect dry hire, quirky electrics, and a caterer who brings everything. Green, temperate and gently rolling, the valley photographs beautifully but is not reliably warm: pack the plan for rain rather than the plan for heat. What surprises couples is how far the budget stretches here compared with Provence, and how much of it goes back out again on rentals.

The three that catch people out
Know before you book
1
Chateau bedrooms are usually part of the hire and fill up fast. Decide early who sleeps on site, because it sets the tone for the whole weekend.
2
Dry hire is the norm: caterer, furniture, lighting, staff and sometimes generators are all yours to arrange. Compare venues on the all-in figure.
3
The weather is temperate rather than warm, and June evenings can be cool. Plan covered space and a blanket basket rather than relying on a mild night.
Getting there
Paris is the practical gateway: TGV services reach Tours in about an hour from Paris Montparnasse, and Nantes, Tours and Paris Beauvais all take direct European flights. From the station, venues are typically twenty to sixty minutes by car. This is one of the easier destinations for guests who do not want to fly, which is worth highlighting if your list includes older relatives or families with small children.
Before you promise anyone anything
Most foreign couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the chateau. Where a local civil marriage is available, requirements around documents, translations and any residence or publication period vary by nationality, by commune and over time. Nothing here is legal advice: confirm the current rules with the local town hall and with your own authorities before you commit.
Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.
Researched venues
42 wedding venues in Loire Valley
Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.
