Trouwen in Nederlandse kastelen

Nederland heeft meer kastelen en landgoederen dan zijn vlakke reputatie doet vermoeden, en de meeste liggen binnen anderhalf uur van Amsterdam: bakstenen kastelen met een gracht langs de Vecht en de Kromme Rijn in Utrecht, jachthuizen en buitenplaatsen in Gelderland en op de Veluwe, hoeves en kleine kastelen in Brabant, en het heuvelachtiger, half-Belgische landschap van Limburg. Het past bij stellen die het plaatje van een kasteel willen zonder iemand te laten vliegen, met gasten die 's middags heen rijden en dezelfde nacht weer thuis zijn, of die in het koetshuis blijven slapen en er een weekend van maken. De vormen verschillen meer dan de foto's suggereren: sommige landgoederen zijn professionele trouwlocaties met een vast pakket en een eigen keuken, andere zijn stichtingen of particuliere huizen die een paar keer per jaar een zaal verhuren.

Stel vroeg vast met welke van de twee jullie te maken hebben, want dat bepaalt of jullie een dienst boeken of een bruiloft uit losse onderdelen bouwen. Wat stellen verrast, is hoe streng het terrein beschermd wordt: monumentenstatus, oude bomen, grind en gazons beperken waar er iets mag rijden, staan, hangen of branden.

De drie waar mensen op stuklopen

Weet dit voordat je boekt

    Beschermde landgoederen beperken wat er bevestigd, opgehangen, overheen gereden of verlicht mag worden, binnen en op het terrein. Vraag schriftelijk om de huisregels voordat je decoratie laat maken.

    Sommige kastelen zijn trouwlocaties met een pakket, andere verhuren een paar keer per jaar een zaal waar niets bij zit. Stel vast welke van de twee je offreert voordat je prijzen vergelijkt.

    Het terrein is vanaf eind mei op zijn mooist, maar het regent ook in een Nederlandse zomer. Controleer of de ruimte binnen jullie volledige gezelschap zittend kwijt kan, niet alleen staand.

Ernaartoe komen

Bijna iedereen komt met de auto. De kastelengordel loopt van Utrecht via Gelderland naar Brabant en Limburg, een uur tot anderhalf uur van Amsterdam, Rotterdam en de Duitse grens. Schiphol en Eindhoven dekken gasten die invliegen, en vanaf de stations Utrecht, Arnhem, Den Bosch en Maastricht is het naar de meeste landgoederen nog één taxirit. Parkeren op gras of grind is eindig en kan bij nat weer dichtgaan, dus spreek een regel af voor auto's die blijven staan en maak een taxiplan voordat de uitnodigingen de deur uitgaan.

Voordat je iemand iets belooft

Stellen ronden het juridische huwelijk vaak af bij hun eigen gemeentehuis en houden een vrije of symbolische ceremonie op het landgoed. In Nederland wordt een ceremonie pas juridisch bindend op een plek die de gemeente als trouwlocatie heeft aangewezen, of via een huwelijk op locatie dat jullie met de gemeente afspreken voor die datum en dat gebouw. Of een kasteel met monumentenstatus daarvoor in aanmerking komt, wat het kost en hoe lang het duurt om te regelen, verschilt per gemeente en verandert door de tijd heen. Niets hiervan is juridisch advies: vraag het na bij de gemeente waar de locatie onder valt en bij jullie eigen instanties voordat je erop gaat plannen.

Trouwregels verschillen per land, per regio en zelfs per gemeente, en ze veranderen. Zie dit als oriëntatie, niet als juridisch advies: controleer de papieren bij de plaatselijke autoriteit én bij je eigen gemeente voordat je iets boekt.
