Bordeaux, c'est le mariage viticole sans l'étiquette de prix provençale. La ville est dix-huitième, plate et faite pour la marche, avec ses quais le long de la Garonne et assez d'hôtels pour loger une grande liste d'invités à un trajet de tram les uns des autres. Le mariage lui-même se passe en général ailleurs, dans l'un des nombreux châteaux viticoles répartis dans le Médoc, l'Entre-deux-Mers et la campagne autour de Saint-Émilion.
Les deux extrémités de la région ne se ressemblent en rien. Le Médoc est plat, solennel et grandiose, fait pour une longue allée de vignes et cent cinquante invités ; Saint-Émilion est vallonné, médiéval et de petite échelle, mieux adapté à soixante personnes, un chai en calcaire et quelques pas entre chaque étape. Arcachon et le Cap Ferret ajoutent une heure de route et un déjeuner d'huîtres au dimanche.
La région convient aux couples qui veulent un domaine en activité plutôt qu'un hôtel, et que ne rebutent ni la location nue ni le recours à un traiteur. Ce qui surprend les couples, c'est la vendange : beaucoup de domaines n'accueillent pas de mariage pendant cette période, donc une date de début d'automne doit être validée avec la propriété avant d'imprimer quoi que ce soit.

La vendange court à peu près de fin août à octobre selon l'année et le cépage, et certains domaines en activité ferment totalement aux événements pendant cette période. Posez la question des vendanges avant d'arrêter une date d'automne.

La location nue est la norme : les frais achètent le château et le parc, tandis que traiteur, mobilier, personnel, éclairage et parfois électricité sont à votre charge. Comparez les lieux sur le total tout compris.

Le climat est ici atlantique plutôt que méditerranéen, plus doux et plus humide que dans le Sud. Réservez un espace couvert que vous seriez réellement heureux d'utiliser, au lieu d'en faire un plan de secours.
S'y rendre
Bordeaux-Mérignac reçoit des vols directs depuis la majeure partie de l'Europe de l'Ouest, se trouve à une vingtaine de minutes à l'ouest de la ville et dispose d'une ligne de tram vers le centre. Le TGV depuis Paris rejoint Bordeaux Saint-Jean en un peu plus de deux heures, ce qui fait du rail la route sensée pour les invités européens qui passent par Paris. Depuis la gare, Saint-Émilion est à environ quarante minutes en voiture ou en train, le Médoc à une heure ou plus, et Arcachon à moins d'une heure de train. Publiez l'aéroport comme la gare, et dites clairement si vos invités ont besoin d'une voiture sur place, car les domaines ruraux ne sont à pied de rien.

Les couples se font régulièrement surprendre par les conditions françaises de résidence et de publication pour un mariage civil, largement décrites comme strictes et appliquées commune par commune plutôt qu'au niveau national.
