Getting married in Brussels
Brussels is underrated as a wedding city and slightly awkward as a place to organise one, which is more or less the same sentence. The stock is unusual: art-nouveau townhouses with stained glass and iron staircases, orangeries and glasshouses in the parks, converted industrial halls along the canal in the west, a handful of grand hotels, and the green southern edge towards Uccle and the Sonian Forest where the city stops behaving like a capital. Nearly every guest can arrive by train, direct from London, Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne and most of Belgium, and the airport is twenty minutes from the centre, so a weekend here costs guests less holiday than almost any other destination.
Catering is strong and noticeably cheaper than Paris or Amsterdam. The awkwardness is administrative: the region is nineteen separate communes, each with its own town hall and its own rules on noise, terraces and permits, so the answer you get depends on which street the venue is on. Rain is possible in every month, which makes an indoor plan a requirement rather than a fallback.

The three that catch people out
Know before you book
1
The low-emission zone covers all nineteen communes around the clock, foreign number plates must be registered before entering, and non-compliant vehicles are fined. Check hire cars, any vintage wedding car and supplier vans against the current standard.
2
Noise limits, closing hours and permits are set by the individual commune rather than the region. Confirm which commune the venue sits in, and get its cut-off time for amplified music in writing.
3
Protected art-nouveau and listed interiors restrict candles, fixings, floor loading and guest numbers, and many have narrow staircases and no lift. Ask for the house rules and the real seated capacity per floor.
Getting there
Brussels Airport at Zaventem is around twenty minutes by train from the centre, and Charleroi, an hour south, carries most low-cost routes. Bruxelles-Midi takes Eurostar from London and high-speed trains from Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne, while domestic trains reach Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp in under an hour, so many guests should be told to book a train rather than a flight. Inside the city, trams, metro and taxis cover everything and hotel parking is expensive enough to avoid. For venues on the canal or the southern green edge, check the last tram and arrange taxis in advance. Publish the station as the default arrival point, not the airport.
Before you promise anyone anything
Foreign couples commonly complete the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic or religious ceremony at the venue. In Belgium a civil marriage is the business of the commune, and a ceremony held anywhere other than its town hall depends on that commune having formally designated the place for marriages; conditions, documents, fees and any notice or residence requirements vary by nationality, by commune and over time. Nothing here is legal advice: put the question to the town hall of the Brussels commune where you intend to marry, and to your own authorities, and get the answer in writing before you book anything.
Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.

Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.
