Getting married in Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is theatre: lemon terraces stacked above the water, pastel towns, a ceremony where the sea fills every photograph. It suits couples with a smaller guest list, a real budget and an appetite for logistics, because everything here is vertical. Venues sit on cliffs reached by hairpin roads, coaches often cannot pass, and the last stretch to a terrace can be a flight of a hundred steps that your grandparents will have to climb.

Prices reflect the view: this is one of the most expensive places in Europe to marry, and peak-summer hotel rates for guests match it. The compensation is that you barely need decor. What surprises couples is the traffic in July and August, when a ten-kilometre transfer can take an hour, and the wind, which decides at the last minute whether the terrace ceremony still works.

Plan a Plan B under cover, keep the guest list tight, and put shoes with real grip in the getting-ready bag.

The three that catch people out

Know before you book

  1. 1

Many terraces are reached only by steps or by narrow roads that coaches cannot use. Ask how the least mobile guest gets from the drop-off point to their seat.

  2. 2

Wind is the standard reason a cliffside ceremony moves indoors. Agree the decision time and who makes the call before the day, and confirm the alternative space.

  3. 3

Peak-season road traffic can double transfer times in July and August. Build a full hour of slack into the schedule between locations.

Getting there

Naples is the arrival airport for almost everyone, followed by a ninety-minute to two-hour transfer by road, or a ferry in season from Naples or Salerno. Transfers are the single biggest guest expense after the hotel, so quote them honestly on your website. Ferries are weather-dependent and can be cancelled at short notice, which matters if you plan to move the whole party by boat between ceremony and reception.

Before you promise anyone anything

Foreign couples commonly separate the legal marriage from the celebration, marrying at home and holding a symbolic ceremony on the coast, though marrying legally on site is also possible. Requirements, paperwork, translations, legalisation and any waiting periods differ by country and by municipality and change over time. Nothing here is legal advice: verify the current rules with the local town hall and your own authorities before you commit to a date or a venue.

Marriage rules vary by country, region and even municipality, and they change. Treat this as orientation, not legal advice: verify the paperwork with the local authority and with your own municipality before you book anything.

37 wedding venues in Amalfi Coast

Gathered offline through research from each venue’s own website, never a live feed, and never paid for. A venue is listed because it exists and takes weddings, not because Vow endorses it; the one line under each is what a planner would tell you to check before asking for a quote. Venue details are shown as the venue publishes them.
